Meet Our Trainers & Instructors
We believe everyone can benefit from having some personal guidance in a fitness facility, and our goal is to provide that service to all of our members. We believe with the guidance of our knowledgeable staff, you can achieve success with your health and fitness goals more efficiently and with fewer injuries than you could on your own.

Kirk Leavell, Owner & Personal Trainer
Wild Basin Fitness is Kirk's dream come true. He has had a love of
sports and competition all of his life and grew-up participating in
every athletic event he could manage. Kirk succeeded in five
different sports in high school and went on to play baseball and win a
national championship in track and field at the collegiate level.
He majored in Kinesiology at Blinn College and Sam Houston State University and feels the combination of an education and a lifetime of personal experience has allowed him to reach a professional level of understanding of how exercise and healthy eating can positively affect the body. Kirk's dream of owning his own fitness facility has come true because his clients have had such remarkable success in obtaining their goals under his direction
Julie Leavell, Owner & Personal Trainer
Julie Leavell holds a B.S. Degree from Sam Houston State University
in all-level Kinesiology with an emphasis in teaching and coaching.
Julie has worked in youth fitness for 10 years through the YMCA,
summer leagues, and coaching middle school athletes. For the past 8
years, Julie has been involved with adult fitness here in Austin. She
enjoys offering diversity to her clients with weights, outdoor runs
and hikes, and water exercise.
Julie's philosophy for a healthy mind and body involves a well-rounded individualized routine of strength training and cardiovascular activities that enable a person to feel great about themselves while enjoying their workouts! Julie enjoys training herself and in her free time has been involved in area triathlons, running events, kick boxing, wake boarding, and marathons. She believes keeping workouts new, interesting, and fun is the key to a lifetime of physical wellness!
Ryan Helms, Manager & Personal Trainer
Native Austinite and Texas A&M graduate Ryan Helms joins WBF at
Steiner Ranch from our Westlake location. A lifelong athlete who
participates in a variety of outdoor sports, Ryan admires people
committed to improving their overall physical condition. Dedicated to
results, Ryan helps his clients to achieve their best, whether they
are professional athletes or beginners. He focuses on elevating his
clients' workout intensity to a higher level than they can attain
alone.
Ryan also makes it a priority to educate his clients, ensuring their confidence and ability in the gym. He believes a nutritionally sound diet as well as a routine of strength training and conditioning must be cultivated to sustain overall wellness. Ryan creates individualized programs based on his clients needs and incorporates activities his clients enjoy and prefer. Expect toenjoy a diverse variety of activities and challenges in his classes and training programs.
Keith Bruneman, Personal Trainer
Keith
Brunemen comes to WBF as one of the most successful and popular
trainers at the widely-known and respected “Performance Playground” of
Dallas. Keith is a Cooper Certified Personal Fitness Trainer as well
as a Chek Institute Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach. Keith specializes
in numerous cutting-edge fitness disciplines and is proficient at
designing training programs that emphasize this diversity.
Kelly Bruneman, Personal Trainer & Nutrition Manager
Kelly Bruneman is a certified Nutrition Manager and Fitness Trainer. She has her personal training license from The American Fitness Training of Athletics (AFTA) and her Nutrition Manager certification from The American Academy of Sports Dietitians and Nutritionists (AASDN). Her passion is to show people that healthy living can be a lifestyle that is obtainable and not a sacrifice. Kelly is a true Austinite and a graduate from Texas A&M University. Kelly is a lifelong Track and Field Athlete who competes in half marathon and marathon distances. (She has Boston as a goal!) Kelly believes that a healthy lifestyle is achieved through incorporating and maintaining a balance of exercise and good nutrition. She is dedicated to showing people that with the right adjustments to their attitude, exercise program, and nutrition a lifetime of wellness can be enjoyed. Kelly will create individual, partner, and group training sessions based on a client's needs and abilities. She is also Wild Basin's Nutrition Manager and can help individuals with their diet analysis and menu planning. Most importantly she promises to prove that physical fitness and nutrition can be a fun and lasting activity in anyone's life
Adam Lerner, Personal Trainer
Personal
Trainer and Boxing Instructor Adam Lerner recently moved to Austin
from Los Angeles, where he owned and operated Real Fitness private
training. Adam was an amateur athlete and has been a certified trainer
for eight years, as well as a USA boxing certified coach. He has
trained a plethora of professional and amateur athletes as well as a
handful of well-known actors and singers. Adam's continuing education
includes multiple nutrition certifications allowing him to provide
complete lifestyle guidance. Adam has a strong ability to adapt his
style to the client in order to aid and guide them to their health and
fitness goals. He offes personal training and private boxing lessons.
Rachel Kern, Personal Trainer
Rachel
has been involved in sports and fitness all her life. She grew up in
the Flathead Valley of Montana, where she was active in ballet,
competitive gymnastics and downhill ski racing. She moved to Austin in
1997, after attending the University of Montana. She is a certified
C.H.E.K. (Corrective, Holistic, Exercise, Kinesiology) Exercise and
Lifestyle Nutrition Coach. Rachel enjoys all types of fitness
activities, including weight-training, wakeboarding, and running
events. In her down time,
she enjoys creating new recipes and cooking healthy meals. She
recently won 1st prize in an organic cooking contest with one of her
creations. Rachel’s desire is to implement a corrective and strength
training program individualized for each client. To maximize client
successes, Rachel offers metabolic testing and customized nutrition
plans. She believes this is a
crucial part of optimal fitness. It is her goal to help others achieve
fitness and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Hollie Kenney, TriAthlete & Personal Trainer
Hollie
Kenney is the former editor and publisher of Cycling East newspaper,
Masters swimming coach at the Maryland Athletic Club and a USA
Triathlon certified coach. After competing as a swimmer in her early
youth years, the running bug set in. Competing in Cross County, Indoor
Track and Track and Field at Dulaney High School, Hollie was the first
athlete ever to graduate with 12 varsity letters. In addition, she
earned 16 county titles, and was runner up in the State championships
3 consecutive years and was second at the Cross Country Nationals in
1988. In 2005, she was inducted into the Dulaney Hall of Fame. After
High School, Hollie went on for another 12 varsity seasons at Duquesne
University where she broke the school's mile record (4:45). During her
freshman year in college, she signed up for her first triathlon
(Baltimore Bud Light 1991) and finished 3rd in her age group. The
former Head Cross Country, Track and Swimming coach at the Johns
Hopkins University, Hollie is now a 17 time All American and current
Professional Triathlete. 6 time Ironman finisher, which includes 2
podium finishes at the Ironman Hawaii World Championships, a top 5 at
Ironman Lake Placid and winner of over two dozen triathlons world
wide.
Lindsay Cotter, Personal Trainer & Nutrition Manager
Lindsay is a Nutrition Manager and a personal trainer/ fitness instructor at Wild Basin. She graduated the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Nutrition/Human Ecology and received her ACE personal trainer certification in 2004, soon after graduating from UT. She has trained clients and taught exercise classes for the past 5 years while incorporating her nutrition background. Lindsay also started a run program at a local health club that led to her involvement with triathlons in Kona, Hawaii. Prior to that Lindsay was the Fitness Director at a Hawaiian Resort, and became part of the LavaMan Triathlon which she is still involved with as Assistant Race Director. Lindsay still has a passion for triathlons and returns to Hawaii for 6 weeks out of the year to
be involved in the LavaMan Triathlon. Lindsay also helps her husband James Cotter (local professional triathlete) coach his triathlon squad during the season. Lindsay's loves helping people accomplish their fitness and nutrition goals, big or small!
Scott Woolwine, Personal Trainer & Student Athlete Coach
As
a former high school and college athlete, Scott has trained under Kirk
Leavell and been a member at Wild Basin Fitness since he was 13 years
old. He has a degree in Kinesiology and is working towards a minor in
anatomy and exercise physiology. Scott is currently the strength and
conditioning coach at St. Stephens and has coached football as well.
He has led numerous exercise and conditioning camps for all different
sports. Scott not only focuses on multi-functionial and injury
prevention exercises, but believes building mental strength is very
important to the training process. Scott is living his dream and
loves helping each client on their indiviudal goals.

Barbara Broughton, Personal Trainer
I
became a fitness trainer as a result of my own personal
transformation. My personal transformation of changing my exercise and
nutrition lifestyle, has ignited my passion to help others become
more healthy, vibrant, and happy. People who are starting a fitness
program-whether for the first time or beginning anew after many years,
find great support in my ability to help them confidently and safely
use the equipment and do the exercises specially designed to help them
achieve their fitness and health goals-at their own pace and level.
My goal is your goal-with fun and confidence. I have a BS from
Arizona State University
in Recreation Management and Youth Agency Administration, and a
certification in Personal Training from Cooper Institute in Dallas,
Texas.
