Wild Basin Welcomes Dr. Jeff Martin
Wild Basin Fitness is pleased to welcome Dr. Jeff Martin to Steiner Ranch. Dr. Jeff and his family recently relocated from Southern California, back home here to Austin. Dr. Jeff will soon be providing Chiropractic and Rehab care here to the members of Wild Basin Fitness, residents of Steiner Ranch, and local families and business.
In addition to his Chiropractic care, Dr. Jeff has teamed with longtime friend and associate, Dr. Eric Goodman of Santa Barbara, to provide an innovative training and rehab technique known as Foundation Exercises. This unique blend of rehab and conditioning exercises has most recently been used by some of the world’s most elite professional athletes, including the U.S. Olympic Water Polo Team, Derek Fischer of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Austin’s very own Lance Armstrong! The success that these elite athletes experienced coupled with lower rates of recurrent injuries, has led Dr. Goodman and Dr. Jeff to branch out and offer the Foundation exercises on a broader scale to the general public; the “Corporate Athletes”, “Weekend Warriors”, and “Dr. Moms”!
The principle behind Foundation training is creating powerful, flexible movement from the real "core" of the body, the deep postural spine muscles. Foundation training brings people back to a primitive movement pattern, the way our bodies are designed to move. In re-establishing these movement patterns injuries very frequently decrease and all too often disappear. All of this begins with a slightly different understanding of what our movement core is composed of. Check out Foundation exercises with Dr. Eric Goodman online at www.foundationroots.com. *Dr. Eric Goodman is partners with Peter Park, the official strength and conditioning coach for Lance Armstrong. You can also go to www.livestrong.com and search articles published there and view Lance Armstrong incorporating these exercises into his workout routine. On www.livestrong.com go to the search and type in: "Re-invent your potential with a strong foundation" "This way to a better posture" "Why is foundation training different"
Beem & Leavell Reconcile for Bikes for Kids
STEINER RANCH: 9.30.09: In a rare gesture of kindness, PGA champion golfer Rich Beem and Playboy champion golfer Kirk Leavell have set-aside their differences in a moment of community harmony to benefit Mix 94.7's Bikes for Kids campaign. Golf Sponsor UT Golf Club has generously donated all green fees from the tournament to Bikes for Kids. Happy Hour Sponsor Wild Basin Fitness will donate all proceeds from the post-game celebration to Bikes for Kids.
"We are both pleased to announce that the much-hyped Steiner Ranch Smackdown will now benefit one of our favorite charities, Bikes for Kids," announced Leavell. "I'll still laugh my $%* off as Rich is doing 100 GI Janes while I sip a cold Dos Equis after I annihilate him on the golf course, but it's for a good cause."
"I absolutely support the decision to donate all proceeds from my $%&-kicking of Kirk Leavell to Bikes for Kids," comments Beem. "As Kirk is wallowing in his own sweat on the gym floor, we'll know it's all for a great cause."
Beem vs. Leavell Smackdown is October 8th. Tee-off is at noon, with two teams representing each of the Wild Basin Fitness locations. Team Leavell will be playing for Westlake while Team Beem (funny rhyme) will represent Steiner Ranch. You are welcome to watch the match on the greens and to join the celebration afterwards at Wild Basin Steiner Ranch. All proceeds benefit Bikes for Kids and Mix 94.7 will also be accepting donations during Happy Hour, so show Austin your generous side and drop-off your donation anytime on Oct. 8.
Beem vs. Leavell, Round 2
STEINER RANCH: 9.24.09: Amidst the hoopla of Rich Beem's famous hole in one film, a bootleg video of Kirk Leavell's own eerily similar golfing achievement has surfaced.
"I didn't realize this video even existed," insists Leavell. "But it does go to show you that a hole in one shot is not nearly as difficult as Beemer makes it out to be."
Known for his technological prowess, unnamed sources insist that Leavell himself may have leaked the controversial video to the internet. Take a look a decide for yourself.
Steiner Ranch Smackdown: Beem vs. Leavell
STEINER RANCH: 9.22.09: After suffering years of abuse at the hands of Wild Basin owner and sadist Kirk Leavell, PGA big-shot and semi-celebrity Rich Beem has finally tired of the tirade and thrown-down the gauntlet, challenging Leavell to a golf duel. (See Rich hit a once in a lifetime hole-in-one.)
"I am sick of the trash talk. Let's see Leavell put his money where his mouth is," taunts Beem. "We all know he can do some girly jumping jacks in the gym, but let's see him throw down on the greens."
"Bring it on," smirks Leavell. "I'll punish him on the course and then punish him in the gym," says the 2008 winner of the Playboy Golf Tournament. "Tell him to bring his big-girl panties."
Only time will tell. Beem and Leavell have put together their individual teams to duke it out on the course, with the loser doing 100 GI Janes during a post-game celebration at the gym. Let the trash talk begin.
Sandy Finishes the 50/50/50 Fitness Challenge!
AUSTIN -- Mix 94.7 Morning Talk Show Host Sandy completed his 50/50/50 Fitness Challenge in just 68 minutes! (Not 108 minutes, as previously reported...) As part of a Fitness Challenge Event, four on-air personalities completed four different challenges with only 6 weeks to train. Sandy chose Wild Basin's infamous 50/50/50 Challenge. To complete this challenge, he had to do 50 push-ups, 50 pull-ups, and 50 one-legged squats on each leg. There's no time limit on the challenge, but he had to run .25 miles on the treadmill anytime he stopped any activity.
To prepare for the challenge, Sandy trained regularly with Wild Basin trainer Ryan Helms. "Six and a half weeks ago, I was pretty spent after the warm-up. That would have been my workout," says Sandy of his progress over the last 6 weeks. "It's amazing what your body will do when you ask for it." Hear what Sandy has to say about completing the challenge about how he hopes to inspire others to get started on their own fitness challenge.
